Concept Note:
Lee’s Foundation WASH-OUT Program – Focusing on WASH and Social Development
Introduction: The Lee’s Foundation wash-out program aims to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities, while also providing underprivileged youth with access to quality education and training, to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in life. In addition to WASH and academic training, the program places a strong emphasis on social development, to help participants develop important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, empathy, and cultural awareness. The program also incorporates a range of activities, including a debate and spelling bee competition, football, and local fights, to sensitise the people of Sokoto State, Nigeria.
Program Goals and Objectives: The program’s goals and objectives are to improve access to WASH facilities and equip participants with the skills and knowledge to succeed academically, socially, and personally. The program aims to achieve the following objectives:
Improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in the local community
Provide participants with access to quality education and training
Help participants develop important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, empathy, and cultural awareness
Build a sense of community and belonging among participants
Encourage participants to give back to their community through WASH and community service projects
Sensitise the people of Sokoto State, Nigeria, to the importance of WASH and social development through a range of activities, including a debate and spelling bee competition, football, and local fights
Ensure the program’s sustainability beyond the initial implementation phase
Program Components:
WASH training sessions: The program will include training sessions on WASH topics such as water treatment, sanitation practices, and hygiene behaviors. These sessions will be led by trained WASH professionals and will be designed to be interactive and engaging.
Academic training: The program will provide participants with access to quality education and training in core subjects such as math, science, and language arts. The program will also provide vocational training in areas such as plumbing, electrical work, and construction.
Social development workshops: The program will organize workshops on social development topics such as leadership, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, empathy, and cultural awareness. These workshops will be led by trained facilitators and will be designed to be interactive and engaging.
WASH and community service projects: The program will organize WASH and community service projects that participants can take part in, such as building new WASH facilities or cleaning up public spaces. These projects will provide participants with an opportunity to give back to their community while also developing their teamwork and leadership skills.
Mentoring and networking opportunities: The program will provide participants with access to mentoring and networking opportunities with WASH and industry professionals. These opportunities will help participants develop their professional skills and build their professional networks.
Debate and spelling bee competition: The program will organize a debate and spelling bee competition, to sensitise the people of Sokoto State, Nigeria, to the importance of WASH and social development. These competitions will be designed to be interactive and engaging, and will provide participants with an opportunity to showcase their public speaking and communication skills.
Football and local fights: The program will also incorporate football and local fights, as a means to sensitise the people of Sokoto State, Nigeria, to the importance of WASH and social development. These activities will be organized in a safe and controlled environment, and will provide participants with an opportunity to develop their teamwork and leadership
